Locations and Settings
Location is more than a city label: it affects the zmanim, Israel or diaspora calendar behavior, candle lighting, and the zmanim method.
Location Settings
Tap the gear, then Location Settings. Search for a city and pick a suggestion, or tap Use My Location (the first time, iOS asks for permission). You can also enter latitude and longitude manually. Tap Save to use the location; the back button discards changes.
Places you have used appear under Saved Locations. Tap one to load it, change anything you like, and save. Swipe a saved location left to delete it from the list; if it is the location in use, the zmanim keep using it until you choose another.
Zmanim method
Choose the zmanim method for the location in the Zmanim Shita section — tap ⓘ for an explanation. New Custom Shita… creates your own; see Custom zmanim profiles.
Israel and diaspora
iKaluach normally sets Israel or diaspora behavior from the location. If a place is classified incorrectly, the Israel / Diaspora control overrides it for that location.
Candle lighting
Choosing a location suggests its customary candle-lighting time: 18 minutes before sunset in general, and in Israel 40 minutes in Jerusalem, 30 in Haifa and Be’er Sheva, and 22 elsewhere. Use + and – to change it.
Daylight saving
Leave Daylight Saving on Automatic. If a location’s times are consistently one hour wrong, force it on or off for that location.
General settings
Settings also include English or Hebrew, 12- or 24-hour time, which holidays are shown, the historical Julian/Gregorian transition for old civil dates, Zmanim Alarms, and the Event reminder time. See Alarms and reminders.
