Yom HaShoah

Yom HaShoah, formally Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day, is normally observed on 27 Nisan.

When the date moves

• If 27 Nisan falls on Friday, the observance is advanced to Thursday, 26 Nisan.
• If 27 Nisan falls on Sunday, the observance is postponed to Monday, 28 Nisan.

The adjustments prevent official ceremonies and their preparation from conflicting with Shabbat. Kaluach displays the officially designated Israeli observance date.

Outside Israel

Practice varies by community and institution. The calendar date shown by Kaluach represents the Israeli observance; it does not prescribe a particular religious ceremony.
